Getting up and doing speeches is a tough thing to do at the beginning. Starting in Toastmasters has been an interesting journey so far. The preparation to do a speech is so important for your success. Learning the format of just how to get prepared is half the battle.
We began the Grand Orators club back in October 2018. We are a community club with the City of Grand Prairie open to welcoming anyone who wants to grow. This club is taking off in such a positive way that the seasoned Toastmasters mixed in with the new raw members of Toastmasters is creating a very nice platform for us. The experience really has become one of my favorite parts of each week I look forward to. Speeches in the Pathways program are all different and that is a great thing. One thing I am learning right off the bat is that no matter where you are in your walk in Toastmasters, you are going to be revealed little pieces of the puzzle you didn’t know already about yourself.
Each week already, I have learned something different about myself. One is that the stage or front of the room is a powerful platform. One seasoned Toastmaster who evaluated my second speech, Steve Collins told me that you need to “own” the moment. It has stuck with me ever since that evaluation. You build confidence each time you get up there. Everyone will go at a different pace and that is perfectly fine. I am still learning each time, but that confidence is building each time I am speaking or in an assigned role of the meeting. More excitement is ahead in this journey and excited where this heading. Until next time, be well.
